How do I get in from the airport?
The Alilaguna boat or a bus to Piazzale Roma. A water taxi is glorious but agree it first: ask for the final price, not the price "per person".
How do the vaporetti work?
Tickets from ACTV only, at the booths or in the app: the day pass pays for itself from the third trip. Resellers near the landing stages add a margin.
Gondola or traghetto?
The traghetto crosses the Grand Canal standing up for small change. A gondola is a different thing: agree price and length before you step in.
Do I need a car?
No: it stops at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto. Venice is done on foot and by vaporetto.
What can I do in a single day?
St Mark's at dawn, then Cannaregio and the lagoon: the best of it is where the calli empty out.
